THE SALESIAN YOUTH MOVEMENT

Becoming Part of the Movement: Membership in the Movement

Membership in the SYM is spontaneous and loose because membership in movements is lived. Any person can become part of the movement in various forms:

    • through “implicit” membership, which means in their own individual way they
      strive to live the spirit of St. John Bosco and put into practice the Preventive
      System of Education;
    • by joining associations that are a part of the movement;
    • by joining groups that link up with the movement as federations;
    • by joining individual groups that link up with the movement;
    • youth ministers who journey with the youth of the movement.

The Heart of the Movement: The Salesian Youth Spirituality

It is a spirituality: a particular way of living the Gospel of Christ, in response to the active presence of the Spirit.

It is youthful: a way of life realized within the world and experience of the young and in accordance with their needs and growth.

It is Salesian: a way of life lived by St. John Bosco under the inspiration of St. Francis of Sales and shared with Salesians and young people alike. The Salesian Youth Spirituality is St. John Bosco’s precious heritage for the Church and the world. It is the spirit that St. John Bosco lived, and that lives on in the Salesians, lay people, and youth who have come in contact with his life and teachings.
